Pedro was born José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal on April 2, 1975 to a child psychologist and fertility doctor in Santiago, Chile. His family moved just nine months after his birth, gaining political asylum in Denmark and later to the United States where he lived in Orange County, California, and San Antonio, Texas.

While he appeared on-screen in his early acting career in a variety of smaller roles in both film and TV shows, his appearance as Oberyn Martell in HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ cemented his role in the pop culture zeitgeist. He stayed on the HBO train with the series ‘Narcos’ and went on to snag key roles in projects like ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ (2020), ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ and more. He is perhaps now most known for his starring role in Disney+’s ‘Star Wars’ series ‘The Mandalorian.’
